Capri and Amalfi Coast

While London felt like home and Paris was a sweet interlude, Italy topped our trip off and Capri and the Amalfi coast were the favorite parts of our overseas adventure.

CAPRI

We arrived by ferry from Naples. Immediately we noticed the flowing and beautiful Italian language, picking up on words here and there from knowing bits of it. We also noted the bouncy, affable and confident flow to the Italian way.  One that suits our personalities, sharing, caring yet assertive.

Our ferry ride to Capri was about an hour, in a storm and choppy waters with rainbows guiding the way. Once in Capri we found it difficult to get a taxi, in torrential downpours we decided to share one with two guys who happened to be going to the same, Hotel San Michel, for a wedding.

The roads up felt precarioulsy close to the edge, like a thrilling adrenaline rush. The driver wound with expertise into Anacapri. It looked surreal with colorful homes dotting the hills. We arrived to our hotel, which was nestled up on a cliff and walked out of our hotel room to a huge patio with this. Needless to say we didn’t want to leave this paradise.

The first night there was an Italian couples’ wedding with about 75 people. After dinner we heard the music up in our room, so we decided to crash the wedding party and went down to see it hopping with a rambuctious crowd that we assimilated into. We were the Americans that were a bit out of place. After about 10-15 minutes of hanging with this party all the lights in the hotel went out. Music stopped and everyone was left mingling about. This is where we took our leave and went walking through Anacapri. For being a small island there were many people out in the squares.

While visiting, we explored Capri by hiking its trails and walking through the main centers of Capri and Anacapri. We ate delicious fresh food sitting outside, enjoying the balmy nights. Feeling serenaded by the magnificent views and tastes of Capri.

We met a couple at our hotel pool and hung with them for the day, having fun sharing travel stories and finding new things to do. We had been up in the air of where to stay next, from Positano, to Amalfi and with the suggestion of our new friends we decided on Maiori.

IMG_6807

We visited the Blue Grotto. Which has a line that winds down the mountain. We thought this somewhat pricey tour would at least give us a while in the grotto, but to our surprise we were rowed in, went around a stunning blue cave, sparkling with unreal colors, to be rowed right back out. I’d say it was 4 minutes or less.

AMALFI COAST TO MAIORI

IMG_7939

We took the ferry to Positano because of a storm. This added several hours to our trip, but the views of the coast we wouldn’t have seen otherwise given our time there. We took the bus, again winding precariously along the high cliffs that at times felt unnerving.

IMG_6862

The fresh ocean air was intoxicating and invigorating, smelling of salt with slippery winds.  We drove through Positano and Sorrento into Amalfi. The views were absolutely breathtaking along the coast.

We arrived to Maiori and walking through the square, it felt almost empty, which was a sweet relief from the bustling touristy areas that we had been in. People there did not speak english as much, so we made due with the little Italian I knew.

IMG_6796

We had the best food we’ve ever eaten in our lives in Maiori at Mammato dal 1890. An unassuming restaurant that knocked our socks off. While all the food we ate in Italy was out of this world, this place was mouthwatering. We had fish baked in sea salt, mussels and seafood fresh from the sea in pasta dishes that melted in the mouth. Savory, rich and addictive with flavors bursting of simple spices, fresh cream and tomatoes.

We delightfully porked out into a food coma and were so impressed we decided to give our sentiments to the cook. We stopped in the kitchen to find the chef, a little lady, about 70, who we were interpreted to that her restaurant’s recipes had been handed down from her family members for many generations.

We went to the place across the street the next night and were immensely impressed with the food there as well. Ahhh Maiori, you captured our tastebuds fancy.

We spent our last day exploring Amalfi. It just so happened it was the first storm in the area for the past several months. We were not dismayed and still enjoyed our time exploring the shops and cafes of Amalfi.

The next morning we had to jump on a bus to get to the train station in Salerno to make our train to Rome, the last stop on our Italy trip. What we weren’t prepared for was how packed the buses coming from Amalfi were. We waited for two which were already full to then, luckily, share a cab with a lovely woman from Toronto who also lived in Italy.  With her angelic help, we made our train just in time.

Apologies for the delay in my travel writing, which happened in September. There has been a bustle of new activity which I’ll share, along with a creative block, which feels like it has (finally) dissolved. I’ll be back with our trip to Rome and Stockholm.

Taking Flight

I ask myself if I believe in destiny or do I co-create my reality, are they one and the same?

The manifestation of soul knows and speaks through the body in intuitive flashes and promptings. With a purpose to its calling, trusting its knowledge, I’ve moved onto a new path. As I’m entering new realms of self-discovery and owning them the word Boaz has come to me meaning strength and the unknown, which causes trepidation.

There are times when strength is taking a stand, no one outside of self knows how to do that. True strength resonates with the understanding of the soul’s whisperings.

Unflinching in the face of the unknown, viewing it as an opportunity of empowerment. What I swore could never be happening is whilst what was comfortable as I knew my life to be, has dismantled.

I’ve laid intentions and have viewed higher aspects of my living dream and where I have to let go, I find beautiful treasures unfold. Stepping away from what is unhealthy allows what is thriving to grow. Knowing that in this unknown abyss called life anything is possible.

BUDAPEST

I traveled to Budapest where I arrived feeling bogged down. I received a phenomenal massage from a healer who told me “Always care for you first, make that time happen”. Empathically releasing residue I’d been holding onto, ironically I realized I was relinquishing my heart’s calling for attainment of status quo, which goes against everything I teach to others, I had become a living contradiction .

Széchenyi-Baths-Budapest

During the days, I strolled the boulevards, going to the famed Szeycheni baths for a dip and watching opera in the park at a castle.

At night Budapest transformed into a magically lit sight along the Danube. Taken by rickshaw on a tour, this city felt alive with softly glowing and swaying lanterns, cobblestone streets blocked off with chairs and tables, smells of grilling, musical sounds mingling, movement of people walking, dancing and romancing. An active city, with much youth amidst what has kept a jazzy glamour.

I thoroughly enjoy traveling alone at times, in the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing my surroundings or culture I expand in my ability to circumnavigate, communicate and get to know others. I left Budapest with making things happen for myself, of course with help from others as well.
In gratitude for that help always.

PRAGUE

Traveling can thrust one into a new path unexplored, unexpected, unknowing how it happens, it just does.

Heading to the train station an hour and a half early, waiting almost two hours in line I missed the original train instead taking a later one. Feeling buoyant about this turn of events with a pulsating clarity in my heart.

It was hot, one of the hottest days on record in Budapest. The train arrived and everything felt muggy and tired. I was in a meditation of sorts releasing thoughts that were no longer befitting my state of being. Moving through the impatience of delay, I looked out the window to see the lights flash off and on three times.

Which has happened before, twice actually, usually an auspicious sign of something taking place beyond my conscious mind.

What I do know is this delay caused a meeting with an incredible friend, that made my time in Prague extraordinary. The three days I was there were spent being shown around the picturesque city that felt out of a storybook.

night-charles-bridge-prague

The architecture in Prague is preserved, the museum, churches and opera house were indescribably gorgeous. A clear and meticulous ingenuity makes up the city’s design.

Prague captured my heart; out of a movie scene, camera missing, the pictures snapped in memory.

TEPLICE

I was taken out of my comfort zone, comfortably. Also out of Prague on a mountain trip. I asked to stop at Terezin, which once was a concentration camp. I felt it important to see the depths to depravity. To not be forgotten. Feeling despair while honoring the victims I understood I came to reclaim a part of my soul.

I went to Teplice, a Bohemian mountain town also known for its healing spas where people from around the world indulge in. In an illusory fashion, I went frolicking and swimming in the mountains.

A thunderstorm again blowing winds into the path on the ride back to Prague, the elements making their presence known. I left Prague dizzy with bliss. Bittersweet, yet knowing like most in life, experiences are forever engrained in mind and heart.

I benefit by letting go of expectations, allowing the universe to unfold its wings to me, as I to it.
Like the butterfly I feel my wings are drying after emerging from the chrysalis, a part of me vies to go back to the comfort of it, while the urge within says to

spread my wings.

Unsure, shaky, yet knowing the winds of change will take me

where I’m meant to go

I lost my camera in Budapest so the pictures featured are pulled from internet to give you a visual.

Bocas del Toro

After leaving Costa Rica, I arrived in Bocas Del Toro, an archipelago of Panama,

Stepping foot onto this island, we were ushered into a tour office by Homer.
Homer took pride in being our guide and appeared to pop up whenever we needed him, carrying our bags, getting us taxis, leading us into adventures we were meant for.

Upon arriving in this same office, a picture on the wall caught my eye. One I remembered clearly, having seen it before.
This surreal photo was a brightly colored picture of Bali huts on clear, teal water, surrounded by the tropics.
Racking my brain for where I KNEW that picture, it came to me.
A dream board I had created a year ago.
Amazed, I had forgot I even made it. I was shown yet again how powerful the mind is.
I feel like living proof of the law of attraction, cheesily reminding me of “The Secret”.
Yet what seems to evade this book on the depths of attracting, are attracting from a space of doing what is for the highest of self and humanity.
Which is where I always intend to attract from.

My conclusion:
It’s the experiences and people who aren’t dreamt up, rather unexpected, that are just as extraordinary.
It’s about the journey as much as the destination.

I tend to shy away from the touristy approach, this time I embraced my heart’s wishes, and decided to go on the suggested tour.
Making our way to dolphin bay on the small water taxi,
hearing the engine put, put, put.
Then silence……. we were stalled in the water.
looking around there was nothing in sight but land, far away.

Really???
Was all I could ask
Uncontrollably giggling at these crazy twists and turns,
.
After 30 minutes of other tour boats coming over and laughing along with us, our rescue boat arrived and transferred us over to a new boat.

Wind blowing and whipping around us, the sun lighting everything up. We were finally taken to dolphin bay.
Intelligent and ever so graceful, these mammals are a sight to behold with their slick, shiny gray skin. As they were frolicking and following our boats around, it helped me to understand their message of breaking out of the adult box.

“Liberate yourself.
Be light, have fun and laugh with life, entertain the innocence and fun of your inner child.”

From there were taken to a restaurant on the water, where I ordered fresh fish, rice and plantain, that was prepared while we snorkeled.
Swimming within the coral, canvas shapes and figures like Fibonacci sequences, spirals, brain shapes, bright yellow, pink, and green coral were rising up to meet me. I was left mesmerized as the water captured the sunlight in a colorful, hypnotic display amongst the varying hues.

A dazzling allure.
Representing universal symbols prevalent in all of life.

After eating the delicious meal, we were taken to Red Frog beach.
I was expecting your average beach, a lot of people, stuff and hot dogs everywhere.

Instead, I was stunned when we walked through the trees to the most pristine beach I have ever seen.
The clear aquamarine ocean was softly rolling onto the white sandy beaches.
With uninhabited islands in view and the lush jungle encompassing. I was lulled into a romantic, soft and dreamy state of being. I blissfully fell even more in love with life.

I was beckoned into the jungle’s splendor.
Thriving junglicious life seemed to be murmuring and speaking to me through the leaves and trees.
Surreptitiously finding my way over to the off-limits, I ventured in.
Climbing up the mountain, the huge trees provided me with vines and ropes that I was grabbing and swinging on. Like a little pixie, getting my sundress dirty, I knew the jungle would take care of me.

Once up, I climbed precariously on a fallen tree for an unobstructed view of the ocean. Afterwards, meditating within the roots of a giant tree, ocean view and life surrounding me.

This was the essence I was seeking.
Life couldn’t have been more perfect in that moment.
Sacred, grounding time within nature, reminding me.

I am a part of it.

Total price of tour
20 Dollars.

Yoga, baby.
My body had been craving the stretching, twisting, release.
After putting my intentions out there to take a class an hour later a woman, Laura, walked by with a yoga mandala on her shirt.
Questioning her about it, she told Sheena and I to come by and check out her studio
Bocas Yoga.
The studio was a cute purple house, that felt warm and high vibrational, creating a comforting, strong space.
In all my yoga experience, this class was by far the best Hatha flow I have ever taken. Laura was a sensational instructor, guiding us into poses expertly with a nurturance to challenge ourselves.
I had my yogic release, things surfaced and were worked out of me, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I will be coming back there, indeed.
total price of class.

Bocas, you will be missed and I shall be back
